The courts have agreed to at least 1,155 reductions in sentence for sex offenders in application of the so-called law of only yes is yes, which have meant 117 releases, according to data collected until July 1 by the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).

The CGPJ has made public on Thursday the updated data based on the information collected from the Supreme, the National Court, the superior courts of Justice and the provincial courts, and do not include the reviews that may have been processed by the criminal courts, competent to prosecute crimes against sexual freedom punishable by up to five years in prison.

The Supreme Court has reduced 31 convictions; the National Court, one; the High Courts of Justice, 145, which have resulted in ten releases; and the provincial courts, 978, which have led to the early release from prison of 107 sex offenders.

In the case of the Supreme Court, 36.5% of the sentences reviewed have resulted in a reduction of sentence, a percentage that drops to 14.3% in the case of the National Court, exceeds 34% in provincial courts and approaches 28% in the high courts of Justice, although not all of them have provided data on the resolutions analyzed.

Among the higher courts that have sent figures, the 49 reductions agreed by Madrid stand out, followed by the Balearic Islands (16) and Andalusia and Catalonia (12).

In the case of provincial courts, Madrid is once again the one that has cut the most sentences (126), followed by those of Barcelona (60), Valencia (55), Alicante (55), Cádiz (49) and the Balearic Islands (48).
