Last Monday, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, one of Robert De Niro's grandsons, died at age 19. At first, the family requested privacy and the details of the death did not transcend to the press. But, the next day, a series of police documents were leaked, in which it is reported that De Niro was found in a luxurious apartment, sitting in a chair, next to a white substance on a plate. The report did not identify the drug. However, during the last hours, Leandro's own mother would have revealed details of the cause of her son's death, which TMZ points out as an overdose.

"I can barely write because of tears. But I want to thank you for all the love, messages, calls and emails we have received in the last 24 hours. I haven't been able to respond yet, but we are grateful for all your love and condolences. None of this is fair and my heart aches in a way I didn't think was possible as long as I breathed," Drena De Niro, Robert's adopted daughter, posted alongside a special message for her late son. "Leo, I love you like the first day I held you in my arms," she wrote.

"Son, the same man who picked us up at the hospital when you were born was the one who took us to the funeral home, where I touched you and hugged you for the last time. You were kindness, acceptance and love. I still can't believe any of this is real, because you made my days bearable and lighter. You didn't deserve to die like this. But I want to believe that God needed a strong and powerful angel in His army. I will be embracing you every second and every moment in my memory until we meet again. My heart is broken forever. I love you with every heartbeat," theactress said.

At first, his post included a controversial statement that was later replaced by a series of emojis. A couple of sentences, in which he revealed the cause behind Leandro's death. "To the person who sold Leo drugs laced with fentanyl, who took my son from us: I hope you think every day about me and my family. You killed us all," he said. A couple of hours later, Drena deleted part of the text, as confirmed by The Mirror. However, in other posts he replied to friends and acquaintances similar things.

"Someone sold fentanyl-laced pills to my son. That person knew those drugs were mixed and still sold them. So... To all those people who keep around, selling and buying that, I want you to know that my son is gone forever." Later, early Wednesday morning, Drena De Niro returned to Instagram. But, this time, to hang two snapshots with his son, when he was still a minor. "There, where it's always summer season," she wrote alongside an image of her holding her hand with Leandro.
