For his part, Alexander Yushchenko, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, noted that any analogues of the passport should be used by each individual person strictly at will.

"But at the same time, the passport itself - it is a traditional passport, paper - should be the same for everyone as a document certifying a citizen's belonging to the Russian Federation," the deputy said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal of the Ministry of Digital Development to introduce a digital identity card on smartphones instead of a paper document.
