Recently, a gondola opened at Idre fjäll, the largest lift investment in the foundation's history, and cost over SEK 240 million. Now there are plans to build more, including one that would connect Idre fjäll with Idre Himmelfjäll.

"It would create a greater reason for tourists to come here," says Idre Fjäll's CEO Andreas Starenhed.

Could be Sweden's longest gondola lift

The plan is out for review and the implementation plan is for 15 years from the zoning plan being adopted. When the lift can be built is currently unclear.

The lift is planned to be 4.5 kilometers, which means that it would be Sweden's longest gondola lift. For example, the cable car in Åre and the track at Kolmården Zoo are close to 3 kilometers each.

Want to avoid collision with reindeer herding

Reindeer herding is also practised in the area and Idre's new Sami village is critical of the plans. However, Idre fjäll believes that they have a good dialogue with the Sami community about the planned expansions.

"Of course, the planned gondola lift and expansions will affect them and we must be helpful when they move the reindeer between the areas. It is no worse than that we have to shut down the lifts or reduce our operations during these periods, says Idre fjäll's CEO Andreas Starenhed.
