37-year-old Nasir Dhagole started his career at Angered's theatre 10 years ago. At the time, he focused entirely on theater and "gabay," a Somali traditional form of poetry that you can hear him sing in the video above.

Now he is featured in SVT's new crime drama: The Detective from Beledweyne.

The recommendation that changed his life

Nasir Dhaghole says that he got the role largely thanks to his old director, who first received a call from the production company looking for a Somali actor. Shortly thereafter, Nasir received a call from the casting director and after a few hits it was clear – he had been cast as detective Ibrahim in the series.

– I have Angered's theatre to thank for this opportunity, says Nasir Dhagole.

An unusual series

He describes the series as an unusual drama, where the director has dared to try something new.

"The character Ibrahim does not relate to the norms of what a detective should be like. He does not smoke cigars constantly or dress a certain way. He is as he is, a Somali detective.
