Activists on social networking sites in Egypt circulated photos and videos that showed the effects of sewage leakage yesterday evening, Wednesday, at the location of the Climate Summit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

And the media published a video clip that showed workers removing water after a partial leak in the sewage network in the vicinity of the "blue zone" of the conference.

She pointed out that the conference attendees "had to jump" to cross the water at one of the exits at the conference site.

The "blue zone" is an important part of the conference areas in general, because it includes the conference hall and the media center, and others specialized in issuing the necessary permits. It is also the logistical part of the conference and is affiliated with and under the management of the United Nations Convention.

The video shows laying stones to bridge the distances between the sidewalks and unaffected areas, to facilitate the crossing of the conference participants;

Which was met with strong discontent by activists and pioneers of networking sites in Egypt.

According to what was published by international media, the conference attendees "found themselves crossing foul-smelling water" after a pipe or tank containing liquid waste exploded near one of the main roads in the place.

Infrastructure problems

The media pointed out that the water leakage incident is the latest among the "infrastructure problems during the conference", which emerged during the first days of the conference, which will continue until November 18.

According to the Associated Press, the summit participants complained about the lack of basic necessities such as food and drink, and asked to stand in queues to get them, as well as running out of "toilet paper" in various places.

The agency pointed to deeper problems and issues related to the idea of organizing a global event on the topic of climate change and promoting environmentally friendly behaviors, explaining that a number of accidents related to energy waste and poor reliance on alternative energies were recorded in organizing the summit.

On the other hand, activists demanded accountability for those responsible and negligent in the spread of sewage in an international conference, especially the coverage of the news by international newspapers and news agencies, which may give a wrong impression, as they put it.

During the annual summit, meetings of government delegations from most countries of the world are held, in addition to leaders from non-governmental organizations, civil society and major companies.

This year's meeting in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh attracted more than 33,000 participants.

The international media was surprised that at the “Climate Summit” sewage overflowed at the residence of the conference guests in Sharm El-Sheikh, and the Governor General had said that he had spent 15 billion pounds to develop the city’s infrastructure, and Sisi said he had spent 4 trillion Egyptian pounds to develop the country’s infrastructure, and it was this result ?!

sarcasm and resentment

"Unfortunately, if the video is true in a conference attended by guests and journalists from all countries of the world, those responsible for this must be held accountable," blogger Hamdan Zakaria said in a Facebook post.

He continued, "They have damaged Egypt's reputation and must be punished in a deterrent manner. Unfortunately, sometimes random selection causes disasters."

And a second tweeter commented sarcastically, "Yadi, the eclipse, your honor, we are preserving the climate, the sewers have hit."

While a blogger highlighted the costs of the conference, tweeting, "Egypt spent 15 billion and left the sewage network. It is true that we have a summit in organization. We will see a climate conference with the smell of sewage."

And a post said, "By God, it is forbidden to spend billions, and in the end there is a scandal and sewers at the climate summit, meaning its goal is a clean environment, a serious loss."

On the other hand, another hinted not to exaggerate the matter, saying, "Because a sewage pipe was blocked, it is still a failure of the infrastructure?"

So far, the party responsible for the conference has not commented on this incident.
