According to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea launched short-range ballistic missiles from multiple locations, including the eastern and northwestern areas, toward the Sea of ​​Japan and the Yellow Sea to the west of the Korean Peninsula from 6:00 am to 9:00 am on the 2nd. It means that more than 17 missiles were launched.

Among these, at 8:00 am, three short-range ballistic missiles were launched from the vicinity of Wonsan in the east toward the Sea of ​​Japan. It crossed the NLL (Northern Limit Line) and fell into the high seas 167 kilometers northwest of Ulleung Island in the Sea of ​​Japan in eastern Korea.



In a statement, the Joint Chiefs of Staff accused North Korea of ​​crossing the NLL and falling into South Korea's territorial waters for the first time since the division of the two Koreas.



An air raid warning was temporarily issued in the area centered on Ulleung Island, and South Korean media reported that it was the first time in six years and nine months since February 2016 that an air raid warning was issued in South Korea due to a North Korean ballistic missile. In response, the South Korean military responded by firing three air-to-surface missiles from multiple fighter jets into the high seas north of the NLL.



According to the South Korean military, North Korea fired about 100 shells into the Sea of ​​Japan from the southeast around 1:30 pm.



The Japanese government also announced that at least one possible ballistic missile was launched eastward from near the eastern coast at around 4:00 pm.
