Many world leaders were quick to hail Lula's presidential victory in Brazil.

According to the latest results available, the former president obtained 50.9% of the vote on Sunday against 49.1% for the outgoing Jair Bolsonaro, after an ultra-polarized campaign.

A few minutes after the announcement of the results, Emmanuel Macron underlined on Twitter that this election opened "a new page in the history of Brazil".

“Together, we will join forces to meet the many common challenges and renew the bond of friendship between our two countries,” wrote the French president.

“Free elections” according to Biden

The American president then followed suit by addressing his “congratulations to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for his election as President of Brazil following free, fair and credible elections”.

Joe Biden also says he "looks forward to working" with him "to continue cooperation between [their] two countries".

For the Prime Minister of Canada, “the Brazilians have decided.

“I look forward to working with Lula to strengthen the partnership between our countries and (…) to advance our shared priorities – such as environmental protection,” tweeted Justin Trudeau.

The story is the same in Australia.

“Huge congratulations to Lula for his tremendous victory in the Brazilian elections.

I look forward to working with you for environmental protection,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote on Twitter.

The President of Mexico also took to Twitter to say: “Lula won, blessed people of Brazil.

“There will be equality and humanism,” wrote Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

“We kiss you brother, President Lula,” for his part soberly tweeted the President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel.

The "return" of Brazil on the international scene

The President of Ecuador also wanted to hail this victory.

“I congratulate Lula on his election as President of the Federal Republic of Brazil.

As a democracy, we will continue to strengthen friendship and cooperation between our countries, for better days for our citizens.

Our region continues to integrate into plurality,” tweeted Guillermo Lasso.

Gabriel Boric, President of Chile, was also satisfied with the results, writing: “Lula.

Joy ".

During his victory speech on Sunday in a hotel in Sao Paulo, Lula notably assured that Brazil is "back" on the international scene.

“Our country is too big to be relegated to the sad role of pariah” warned the president-elect.
