It had been filed as a crime against unknown persons in 2009, but in 2018 the investigations for the murder of Lisa Gabriele in 2005 were reopened. An anonymous complaint arrived at the Cosenza prosecutor's office with details known only to investigators to reopen the investigation.

The cold case has a suspect

Following new investigations, interrogations and the exhumation of the body, the carabinieri have now notified the precautionary custody order against Maurizio Abate, a 50-year-old policeman, at the time under the sub-section of the road of Cosenza, arrested this morning on charges of premeditated willful murder.

The victim, according to what emerged from the investigation, is a woman, Lisa Gabriele, found lifeless on October 8, 2005. The policeman allegedly stole the gun from a colleague.

And for this reason he was discharged in 2019 by the State Police.

The former agent, according to what has been learned, denies any wrongdoing.

The motive

According to what was reconstructed by the investigators, Maurizio Abate had an extramarital affair with the victim, a story characterized by episodes of violence and brutality - also confirmed by a collaborator of justice - also characterized by evenings based on sex, drugs and perversions.

At the basis of the crime, the suspect's will to interrupt the relationship after the birth of a child had by his partner.

Faced with the resistance of Lisa Gabriele, the policeman would have passed to the de facto streets, with episodes still to be clarified such as damage to the woman's car, to the electric cables of the house and even the suspicious death of her dog which took place a few days before the discovery of the body. .

The man is also under investigation for the continuing conduct of the sale and sale of drugs to his son.

New accusations for Maurizio Abbate

The man is also accused of having tried to make believe that the young woman had committed suicide.

According to what emerged from the investigations, Abate would have written a note, left next to the lifeless body of Lisa Gabriele found in a forest of Montalto Uffugo and later false, based on a calligraphic report, in which the young woman expressed the intention to commit suicide. , saying goodbye to family and friends.

Furthermore, some packs of psychotropic drugs and bottles of whiskey were found near the body. 

The simulated suicide

The autopsy carried out on the girl's body after the presentation of the complaint to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Cosenza ascertained that, in reality, Lisa Gabriele had not drunk alcohol and had not taken psychiatric drugs.

The examination also denied that the young woman had committed suicide, but that she, in fact, had been suffocated, presumably, with a pillow.

The murder was allegedly committed in the apartment where the young woman met with the former policeman.

The girl's body was then removed from the place where the murder was committed and taken, to divert the investigation, into the woods where it was later found, next to the bottles of whiskey and packs of psychotropic drugs left deliberately by the murderer on the spot. to make believe that the young woman had committed suicide.
