Elizabeth II has announced her desire that Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, have the title of "queen consort" once Prince Charles becomes king, succeeding her to the British throne.

As reported by the BBC, in a message for her Platinum Jubilee, Elizabeth II said that it is her "sincere wish" that, "when that time comes", Camilla has the title of "queen consort".

Previously, the title of "princess consort" was assumed for the second wife of the monarch's eldest son.
