The Corona virus has killed one million people in the world since the beginning of this year, according to what was announced by the World Health Organization.

The organization called on governments to speed up vaccination operations, at a time when a third of the world's population is still without a vaccine.

"We have passed the tragic stage of the death of one million people with Covid-19 since the beginning of the year," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said - in a press conference.

He called on governments of countries to redouble their efforts to vaccinate health care workers, the elderly and other people most at risk, with the aim of immunizing 70 percent of the population.

And last January, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and their partners created the COVID-19 Vaccine Partnership with the aim of facilitating the distribution of doses in 34 countries where the vaccination level was less than 10%, and all but 6 of them are located in Africa.

Tedros explained that one-third of the world's population is still not immune, including two-thirds of health care workers, and three-quarters of the elderly in low-income countries.

According to the latest statistics of the World Health Organization, the Covid-19 pandemic has killed 6.45 million people worldwide since the first cases appeared at the end of 2019 in the Wuhan region of China.
