South Korea orders updated war plans to counter North Korea's threats

South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol's office said Thursday he has ordered an update of the military's operational plans to counter North Korea's growing nuclear and missile threats.

Yoon issued the directive during his first visit to a military bunker in the capital, Seoul, which would be a command center in case of war.

His visit coincides with the start of military exercises on Monday between South Korean and US forces, the largest in years.

The exercise, which is held annually in the summer, was renamed "Ulci Freedom Shield".

It is scheduled to expire on September 1.
