, India is showing that it is closing its technological gap with China.

The action of Redington India, which distributes Apple products in India, took 10% after its announcements.

In its press release published on Tuesday August 23, Apple speaks of “

mitigating geopolitical risks on the efficiency of supply by creating production sites outside of China

 ”.

A reference to the losses of the American giant, linked to the restrictions decided by China since the pandemic.

The impact on production is estimated at at least 8 million euros, according to the firm.

Foxconn, Apple's Taiwan-based supplier, has evaluated the assembly of the iPhone 14 at its factory on the outskirts of the city of Chennai in southern India.

The production of the first smartphones could be completed at the end of October or in November.

To counterbalance the productive capacity of China, Apple will however have to rely on several countries.

This is how Vietnam and Mexico should also be called upon, particularly for the assembly of iPad tablets, MacBooks and iWatches.

Beyond industrial considerations, the firm's choices can also be explained by the growing tensions between the United States and China.

By order of Beijing, Apple recently had to ask its subcontractors established in Taiwan to label their products destined for China with the words “made in China”.
