Today, Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz acknowledged the existence of a crisis in the relationship with Egypt, against the backdrop of the recent Israeli war on Gaza.

In an interview with Israel Radio, Gantz said that the interests of Egypt and Israel require overcoming the current crisis between the two countries.

He added that there are days of tension resulting from the end of "Operation Honest Dawn", in reference to the recent attack on Gaza, expressing his hope that the crisis will pass in the coming days.

The Israeli radio quoted the Israeli Defense Minister as saying, "Egypt is a major regional player and one of Israel's most important friends; the two countries. Sometimes there are fluctuations, and the two sides will find a way to restore stability."

And the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said - yesterday, Sunday - that the head of the Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet) Ronen Bar went to Egypt, to discuss the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and to maintain the state of calm in the Strip.

The commission added that the head of the Shin Bet will meet with the head of Egyptian intelligence, Major General Abbas Kamel, who canceled his visit to Israel in protest against the deterioration of relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv after the military operation in Gaza.

The same sources indicated that Egypt demanded a halt to the military operations carried out by the occupation army in the West Bank, following the cease-fire between Israel and the Islamic Jihad movement in Gaza.
