“You can be amazed at the impudence of Mr. Prystaiko.

Russia is the sole legal successor of the Soviet Union... The decision on this was adopted and enshrined at the international legal level.

It was due, among other things, to the fact that Russia assumed obligations to pay the debts of the entire Soviet Union and did not divide them into republics.

The entire total debt of the USSR was paid by Russia, ”the historian emphasized.

He noted that if we argue using the logic of the Ukrainian ambassador, then at least a third of these debts had to be paid by Kyiv in order to claim part of the property.

“Of course, this was not done.

And this cannot be done by definition, because Ukraine is the poorest state in Europe and is in debt like silk,” Shapovalov added.

In his opinion, such statements are "absolutely groundless" and destroy the entire system of international relations.

Earlier it became known that Prystaiko said that Russia should return a third of the foreign property of the USSR.

In February, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia had fully paid off the debts of the Soviet Union, and that Kyiv had refused to comply with agreements to return part of Soviet assets.
