The opening day of the Beijing Winter Olympics is approaching.

Because of the Corona virus, the torch relay only started yesterday (the 2nd), but eco-friendly cutting-edge technologies such as robots, self-driving cars, and hydrogen fuel were all mobilized.

Correspondent Song Wook from Beijing delivered the news.

robot carrying the Beijing Olympic torch goes into the water.

The torch is handed over to another robot underwater.

The torch relay started just two days before the opening due to the COVID-19 quarantine.

Instead, eco-friendly and cutting-edge technologies were mobilized in large numbers.

Self-driving vehicles are also on the move, and the carbon fiber torch 'Feiyang' uses hydrogen fuel.

[Wang Xiangyu/Deputy Director, Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee: Hydrogen fuel basically does not generate carbon.

This shows the green Olympic philosophy and technological achievements.]

For three days, 1,200 people will carry torches and pass through Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, where the Olympic Games are held.

The torch is scheduled to return to Beijing tomorrow and light the torch at the national stadium here, but the method has not yet been revealed.

At the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, Chinese gymnast hero Li Ning ran a wire on the inner wall of the stadium's roof and lit a torch.

Director Zhang Yimou, who again directed the Olympic opening ceremony for the first time in 14 years, heralded the most innovative torch lighting.

[Zhang Yimou / General Director of the Opening Ceremony: I believe that this torch lighting will be different from the Olympics of the past 100 years.

We hope to be a pioneer.]

Tomorrow's opening ceremony will be held for 100 minutes with about 3,000 people participating, which is significantly smaller than that of the Summer Olympics.
