A bata de cola signed by Lola Flores was the trigger, recalls Eva.
This flamenco teacher, who has dedicated 50 years of her life to dancing, was face to face with the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, David Pérez, to explain her situation:
uncertainty, anger and pity
.
She and her family, like 25 other residents of Rafael Alberti (1 and 3) and La Presa (4) streets, in San Fernando de Henares, received
an eviction order last September
within a maximum period of 24 hours for imminent danger of collapse.
In their homes they left a whole life.
And there Eva was last week, before Pérez, begging her to let them return to their homes
one last time so that they could take out belongings and souvenirs
, among which was the aforementioned garment signed by La Faraona.
"That robe can't stay there, you have to take it out," Pérez replied.
The Community authorized them to access their homes last Thursday, but the firefighters, seeing the state of the buildings, determined that
they could only stay for 30 minutes
and taking turns.
"One of them told me that he had been in the Lorca earthquake and that, there, they had only left the neighbors for 10 minutes...", points out Eva, who throws a question into the air: "How
do you get 30 years out of your life in 30 minutes
?
This San Fernandina recognizes that she faced one of the worst days of her life.
The night before
she couldn't sleep
planning what to pick up, and when the time came, at 11:00 am, her nervousness got the better of her.
"First I ran for the memories of my only son, from when he was little: his clothes, his stories... Then I went into my mother's room, who died shortly before they kicked us out.
They haven't let me , as I say, smell my mother
. When I saw his sofa... I hugged him crying. The firefighter tried to reassure me, but at the moment we heard on his
walkie
'he moves the family that has consumed half the time'. ..
There you totally block yourself
from seeing everything you have left."
cracks and panic
The interior of their home was as they had left it.
With more cracks, yes, that cracked some walls that "
looked like they were going to fall apart like a piece of sugar
."
If in September his building had sunk 20 centimeters, as a result of water leaks derived from a ventilation shaft on Metro Line 7, it
has now expired 27.5 centimeters
.
Since her forced eviction, the Community has installed Eva and her neighbors in
an aparthotel next to an industrial estate in Canillejas,
next to the A-2, where they mingle with tourists and couples who go to blow off steam on weekends.
Through its corridors it is common to come across cleaning carts that clean the rooms.
"We have
included breakfast, lunch and dinner
, as well as transportation, some taxis that take us to San Fernando. Look at the cost...".

SOMOLINS
Another of the neighbors who spends the night in this accommodation is José Luis, who describes the situation as "traumatic".
"They have been dizzying the partridge for four months... Without giving us the option to collect our memories. Only half an hour and in bad manners. Very fast.
You were overwhelmed, you saw that things were left inside you
, and that you could not do anything", he sheds anguish
"Mainly we took papers... You get used to the idea that you are left homeless, but the most fucked up thing is knowing that
you are left with no memories, no past
: old photos, computers... Sometimes you get
a flash of something that you forgot, that hurts a lot
. Things I thought I wouldn't miss until you can't get them back anymore."
Meetings and "cordiality" with Pérez
Initially, these residents were going to stay in this aparthotel until January, but the lack of solutions has forged
an extension until April 20.
To show off muscle in the face of adversity, 46 of these neighbors have founded the Rafael Alberti - Presa Affected Association.
Yesterday, its president, Juan Fuentes, met with David Pérez to discuss his future.
"At the moment there is cordiality. On the ground of our buildings, which will be demolished,
it will not be possible to build again
. The idea is to include these lands in the compensation, since they are ours, and they are destined to be a park or gardens. At the earliest, if an agreement is reached with what they offer us,
we could have compensation in the summer
, then we would have to look for another house, buy it, furnish it..." explains Fuentes.

BARBANCHO
This spokesman slips that, to date, there has been no talk of
how much the total sum can amount to
, but he emphasizes that "no appraiser has visited their flats."
"It was done for the average of the surrounding houses. They should include spending on reforms, such as air conditioners, or the belongings that we leave inside," he adds, emphasizing that neighbors cannot go looking at other floors "
without first knowing how much money they're going to give you
. "
According to sources from the Ministry of David Pérez, "we will do all the actions that are necessary to provide a solution to the neighbors,
without limit of time and resources
."
So far, the Community has invested
nearly 30 million euros
in this Madrid enclave.
"The safest building in Spain"
Despite these official words, some members of this association, like Eva, do not forget when the counselor "said at the beginning of October that we should not worry, that it would only be two months of rehabilitation and that, when they finished, he would become
the safest building in Spain
... This Saturday we received the order of ruin".
Others go through
"a great depression"
.
And some, like José Luis, ask for
"another 30 minutes"
so as not to lose any memory when the buildings begin to collapse.
Some demolitions that do not yet have a date, but everything indicates that "they
will be in the short term"
, notes Eva, who concludes: "A technician from the Community told us: 'We have to shoot it as soon as possible... It is better than the man dominate the building than vice versa, because then you don't know where it will fall'".
