• Justice Order of search and capture for the well-known presenter Laura Bozzo

  • Courts The presenter Laura Bozzo needs 13,000 euros to avoid jail, at least for now

"If she had gone to prison, she would be dead,"

said Laura Bozzo after spending more than three months in hiding to avoid the arrest warrant for tax evasion that weighed against her. On August 11, the Peruvian presenter had to enter the Santiaguito prison, in Acapulco, but never did, which caused the Attorney General's Office to issue a 'red card' to Interpol to search for the fugitive in more than 190 countries. This order was voided last Monday, when Bozzo made the payment of a part of the amount defrauded and came out of hiding sharing his testimony on social networks and interviews in the media.

"I was not hiding in anyone's house, I was in a place in Mexico, I have never left the country and I never will (...) I simply protected my health and, thank God, the Mexican justice gave me the opportunity to appear I have gone to court to make a payment and they gave me the definitive suspension, "the Mexican nationalized journalist has confessed. As it has transpired, Bozzo would have already paid 2,600,000 pesos (

about 108,000 euros

) as a guarantee, of the 13 million pesos (

about 500,000 euros

) that the authorities claim him for having fraudulently sold a home, when a seizure order for debts previously contracted by the presenter weighed on it. In the absence of the parties reaching a final agreement, the imprisonment of one of the most recognized faces of Mexican television has been suspended.

In her first statements after abandoning her flight from justice, Laura Bozzo has given her own version of events: "

the problem is a 2012 audit that was handled very badly. The accountant I had forgot to put my address

. No it is that I have evaded, but it was an audit where I paid triple taxation, there I got into a huge mess, but all this is going to be clarified. Basically the problem is with the accountants and mine for not having taken care of myself ". The former presenter of 'Laura in America' has assured that her idea "was never to leave, it was to resolve this issue", but that "to be in a jail is to be dead, I would not bear it."

The journalist's lawyers tried by all means to prevent her from being imprisoned until the trial, alleging health problems, but her request was rejected. Today Bozzo has denied that this claim was a lie:

"I suffer from very strong depression problems, clinically diagnosed, so for me being in a prison is a death sentence because, in addition, I suffer from a thousand things.

I do not appear to be because I am a very positive and I always try to get energy to give a good image to the public. "

The presenter has also confessed that during her escape she thought a lot about her followers: "It was a pain for me because I thought a lot: 'What will people think?', And she told me: 'Your life comes first.' , but I had to pay attention. " Throughout these three months, Bozzo has claimed to have suffered "a very great pain", since

"for the first time I am going to be a grandmother and my eldest daughter got married and I could not attend her wedding

.

"

Despite the experience, the Peruvian presenter assures that she is "calm" and that "I have several projects that I must do."

This is not the first time that Bozzo faces problems with the Justice. The most notorious case was in 2002, when she was

arrested at the Lima airport for an alleged link to the corruption network led by Vladimir Montesinos, advisor to former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori

, sentenced to 25 years in prison for crimes against humanity. Bozzo was accused of generic falsehood, conspiracy to commit crimes and money laundering. While awaiting trial, the journalist served three years of house arrest until, in 2006, she was sentenced to four years in prison. Bozzo never set foot in a prison in Peru, nor did he assume his responsibility, instead he decided to take a plane to Mexico to leave his problems with the Peruvian justice behind.

The presenter has promised that "we are going to return to television but with the original program, 'Laura en América', but with many things that I have to fix, but above all social assistance, what distinguished me, what made me different , because I am not a television star, I am a person close to people who love to help ".

Bozzo has thanked the Mexican courts and insisted that "any clarification on this issue, we will clarify them with evidence, because

that is how I like that I am a lawyer, little piece of paper is in charge, we are going to end all that defamatory campaign against me ".
