  • US Biden wins and dismisses Trump's populist experience

  • Celebration in the streets of Philadelphia "It's a great day for the world"

Jubilation, euphoria, excitement.

Screams at the top of their lungs like catharsis.

And a sense of relief the likes of which hadn't been felt in Los Angeles in decades.

From the exact same place where thousands of women paraded almost four years ago to vent their anger against Donald Trump after being elected, another huge mass of Angelenos gathered in

Downtown

to celebrate

the end of the "dictator" and the "tyrant"

-in the words of some attendees-, and the triumph of "decency."

"It was about time. I don't believe it. Trump has fallen," a young African-American woman said to her friend as she passed by with her Democratic ticket sign.

What was a march previously organized by the Black Lives Matter movement in favor of democracy turned out to be

an unforgettable party.

Thousands of people joined in a matter of hours, black, white, Asian, first and second generation Hispanics, feminists, members of the LGBTI community, musicians, families with young children, older women in wheelchairs.

Of everything.

Even the police were smiling

from the sides of the march, with no apparent intention of intervening at all.

They understood it for what it was: a peaceful display of joy.

"I have goose bumps. I am hopeful for the first time in a long time," said Babs Thomas, an Angelina by birth, 42 years old, and one of the first to arrive at the march.

"This shows that when we organize ourselves, good things start to happen."

At his side, with a huge American flag, was Mark Markaustin, convinced that

"Biden is the right person

to lead this country for years to come."

He believes that the United States has "been through so much pain" that it requires someone who has experience in these matters.

"He has lost two children and he knows what pain is. I have lost a close person to covid-19 and

this president does not care about anyone other than him.

That is why Biden is the right person at the moment suitable".

Luz Laguna, a Mexican resident of Long Beach, also waves a flag while walking.

His, the one from Mexico, matching the mask he's wearing.

He is happy with the triumph of Biden, but especially with the defeat of Trump, a president who

has made "life miserable for immigrants.

His contempt for Hispanics was evident."

He only hopes that the forced separations of families at the border will end and that they find a way to legalize the millions of undocumented people living in the United States.

"A path of hope opens, of

dreaming again for a better country."

A few meters later the life of the party runs.

A part of the Los Angeles Football Club fans, a social phenomenon since landing in MLS six years ago, beats the drums and their classic chants.

Although with a variation in the letter.

"Get out, get out, get out, Trump!" They

chant with a catchy beat that gets half a block dancing.

In the distance, the neighbors watch the show from the balconies and applaud.

Daisy Chávez shares that "almost everyone" has come to the march, part of the North Gradation that makes it unique to go and see the team played by Mexican Carlos Vela.

"We call ourselves the North End Tigers," he explains,

wearing a mask,

like the vast majority of protesters.

"We are here to celebrate the end of four years of constant racism and too many problems. We couldn't go on like this any longer."

Debra Dawson, who has come from Ventura County to the march, walks past him.

"This is amazingeeee!", He yells looking up at the sky.

"I'm so happy! I'm so glad this madman is gone.

We've gotten rid of a homophobe, a misogynist, and a demon.

I hope we regain goodness, help each other."

Dawson, who wears a mask with the colors of the gay flag, does not hide his pride in the historical figure of Kamala Harris, not only for being the first woman, black, and of Asian origin to reach the vice presidency of the United States, but for being Californian.

"I adore Kamala," he

says.

"I am proud to have someone from California represent us. Today is a great day."
