The man, who is in his 30s, flew home to Sweden this week and is now in custody on suspicion of several crimes that took place in Stockholm during the spring.

It is about preparation for murder, kidnapping, robbery, gross public destruction, attempted aggravated extortion and aggravated weapon crime.

Already, 13 people, most of whom belong to the Vårbynätverket, have been detained for similar crimes.

According to the police, more arrests may take place in the future.

"A breakthrough"

According to the police, there are several investigative measures that have led to the leader being arrested, including material from encrypted chats, so-called SO-Enchrochat.

- This means a breakthrough for our hard work against the criminal networks in the police area Stockholm south.

We have for a long time had a strategic focus where we prioritized this network and the current arrests are now a result of this, says Susanne Wikland, head of serious crimes at the police in the Stockholm region south in a press release and continues:

- In the long run, we hope that this will give our citizens greater security and that the criminal networks will be weaker and fewer.

We will continue our offensive work and work leaning forward with a focus on our citizens.
