As of now, 36 people have died of new coronary pneumonia, most of them are elderly patients with underlying diseases.

It is reported that about 60% of the confirmed cases are currently related to a branch of the Xintiandi Church in Daegu. It is reported that Daegu is the fourth largest city in South Korea with a population of 2.5 million. Currently, health authorities have shifted the focus of testing to ordinary citizens in Daegu because the spread of the virus in the city's communities is alarming.

South Korea ’s Central Epidemic Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters said that of the 438 newly confirmed cases on the 4th, 320 cases came from Daegu, and 87 cases were reported from neighboring Gyeongsangbuk-do. These two places were the centers of the country ’s outbreak. Some other major provinces and cities have also reported infections, of which 4 were reported in Seoul.

It is reported that since February 23, South Korea raised the outbreak alert level to the highest "red", health authorities have been working to stop the virus from spreading in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do.
