Of the 852 people killed in Estonia, 501 were Swedes, some 60 from Östergötland and seven from Gotland.

When an accident occurs on the seas around Sweden, the Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible for the rescue work, and they also believe that they are better equipped than what was the case when Estonia lost in 1994.
