Human Rights Watch's executive director Kenneth Roth confirmed that Saudi Arabia's record of human rights violations and its crown prince Mohammed bin Salman has become subject to scrutiny after the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the "war crimes" committed in Yemen.

"It is very unfortunate that the death of Khashoggi is what led people to highlight the evil that Saudi Arabia is doing," he said in the launch of the organization's annual report on human rights in the world.

He added that the incident "prompted many countries to impose sanctions on the Saudi government and officials, in addition to the cessation of the sale of weapons to it."

In the same vein, Roth praised the efforts of governments of small European countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland and Canada to investigate war crimes in Yemen.

"These governments have pushed the United Nations to pursue the investigation of war crimes committed in Yemen, despite Saudi attempts to thwart any decision on this matter," he said, adding that what these countries did was that "money does not buy impunity," according to Its expression.
