WASHINGTON - Washington Governor Guy Inlesley has joined the race to win the Democratic nomination for the US presidential election in 2020.

"The only candidate that will make climate change a top priority for our nation," Inlesley said in a video in which he announced the launch of his campaign.

"The next task for our nation must be to face the most pressing challenges of our time: addressing climate change," he said.

Anselly, 68, has been governor of the northeastern state since 2013.

He joins a long list of candidates seeking to compete with Republican President Donald Trump, who is expected to run for next year's election.

Among the candidates are Senators Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Corey Booker, Amy Kloboshar and Kersten Gillbrand, congressman for Hawaii Tulsi Gabbard and Julian Castro, housing minister in former President Barack Obama's state.
