LONDON (Reuters) - Two thirds of young girls in Britain are sexually harassed in public places, according to a survey published by the British Independent newspaper.

The survey, conducted by the International Charity Foundation in the United Kingdom, shows girls between the ages of 14 and 21 with behaviors such as yellowing, touching and raising skirts.

The survey asked more than 1,000 girls and women about their experiences in public places, for example when on the street, in transportation, going to school or work, in the park, in bars or clubs.

In general, 66% of them said they had received unwanted sexual attention or sexual or physical contact in a public place.

According to the survey, there were cases of this type at least once a month, and 38% of them faced verbal harassment such as yellowing and sexual comments, while 15% said they were touched or constipated.

The researchers found that one out of every 10 girls suffered from raising their tenses at one point.

Blan International UK called on the government, local councils and police to recognize street harassment as a form of violence against women and girls.

"We already know that unfortunately women are hardened by street harassment in many cases, but this study highlights the shocking fact that this happens regularly for girls as young as 14," said Tania Baron, the charity's chief executive.
