US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States should recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which Israel captured from Syria and annexed to it in a move not recognized by the international community.
"After 52 years, it is time for Israel to fully recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of great strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and the stability of the region," Trump wrote in a tweet.
In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Trump's position.
