This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press secretary of the customs administration in Lublin, Marta Shpakovskaya.

"During the routine check at the border crossing with Ukraine, customs officials stopped the smuggling of the picture, probably the brush of Marc Chagall. A 51-year-old citizen of Ukraine intended to import the picture into Poland, "she explained.

According to Shpakovskaya, if it is established that the author of the picture is indeed Chagall, the detention will be one of the most serious in recent times.

"We are looking forward to the examination of the authenticity of the work," she concluded, noting that the artist's signature was indicated in the lower right corner of the canvas.
