In Burkina Faso, the Canadian national, kidnapped earlier this week at a mining site in the north-east of the country, was found dead on Wednesday. Kirk Woodman was a geologist and responsible for mineral exploration in Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire. He was kidnapped on the Tiabangou site by a dozen armed men.

The body was found dead on January 16, around 3 pm in Beiga-Salmoussi, in the Gorom Gorom department. He was identified by his close associates as being Kirk Woodman's. He was abducted by unidentified individuals on the basis of life of the mining prospecting company Productive Discovery in the village of Tiabangou, in the Sahel region.

" It is with deep emotion that we have learned of the death of Canadian Kirk Woodman, " Burkinabe Foreign Minister Alpha Barry wrote in a statement. The government of Burkina condemns with " the last energy " this assassination and reassures that an investigation is opened. Alpha Barry says that all measures will be taken to find and punish the guilty. Canada has condemned a " heinous crime ".

On the night of January 15, the site where Kirk Woodman lived was attacked by a dozen armed men, probably " terrorists, " according to the Ministry of Security. The attackers first gathered all the staff before searching the dwellings. Then they left with equipment and removing the Canadian. Kirk Woodman arrived at the Tiabangou site on January 10th. He had been joined by the rest of the team, consisting mainly of Burkinabe nationals, the same day he was kidnapped.
