Since his first appearance in a talent program, the striking resemblance between Afghan singer Abdel Salam Moustafa and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made him a popular figure in his war-torn country.

The 28-year-old attracted the attention of the public when he traveled to the capital Kabul to participate in the "Afghan Star" program, a television music competition that attracts competitors from across Afghanistan.

"People call me Justin Trudeau Afghanistan. Since coming to Kabul, I have become very popular and people are taking pictures with me," Muftoun told Reuters in the studio.

"The resemblance between the singer and the 47-year-old Prime Minister of Canada may turn the scales in his favor," said Qais Alft, one of the program's governors.

"There is a great chance that he will win the program because he is the only competitor who has this great appearance."

But I'm fascinated - who started his career seven years ago to revive weddings - has bigger ambitions.

"My only wish is that the Prime Minister (Trudeau) will take me to Canada and I can revive a concert there to sing Afghan songs, and the Prime Minister himself will attend my party," he said.
