61-year-old Robert Jennings is dead: the convicted murderer was executed by poison injection in Huntsville, Texas, and declared dead at 18.33 local time. It was the first time this year that a death sentence was carried out in the state. In 2018, 13 people were executed in Texas - more than in any other US state.

Executions since 1976

A court had found Jennings guilty of shooting a 24-year-old policeman in July 1988 while raiding an erotic bookstore in Houston. At the time of the act, Jennings was on probation in freedom: He had previously been detained for another raid for ten years.

"To my friends and family - it was a good trip," Jennings told the authorities shortly before the execution. He said to the policeman's family that he hoped they would find peace now. "Enjoy all moments of life because we will never get them back."
