The construction of a bratwurst museum is planned on parts of a former satellite camp of the Buchenwald concentration camp in Mühlhausen in northern Thuringia. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the city of Mühlhausen, Anke Pfannstiel. Earlier, the "Bild" newspaper and the "Thüringer Allgemeine" reported on it.

Between September 1944 and February 1945, about 700 Jewish women, mainly from Hungary and Poland, who worked in the nearby armaments industry, were held in the satellite camp.

"A position on the surface of a former barracks of Jewish forced laborers is unacceptable," said the chairman of the Jewish community, Reinhard Schramm. Although one does not want to prevent that a new Bratwurstmuseum be built. However, it would be desirable for another location to be found within Mühlhausen.

The spokesman for the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial reacted cautiously to the site plans: "I do not want to rule out from the outset that it is possible, but at the same time I am curious what proposals will be made to ensure an appropriate form of remembrance within the usage concept," said Rikola-Gunnar Lüttgenau.

In 2008, an investor bought the site

The Bratwurstmuseum has so far been based in Holzhausen near Arnstadt and should move from there to Mühlhausen. The association Friends of Thuringian Bratwurst had announced on Wednesday the parade of Bratwurst Museum. There is "ideal location conditions" and more space.

The museum also includes dining facilities and "experience sites" such as a sausage theater. According to the new location, among other things, there will also be a show whisper and overnight accommodations.

An investor wants to put a seven-digit amount into the project in Mühlhausen in the coming years. He owned the grounds on the northeastern edge of the city forest since 2008, said city spokeswoman Pfannstiel. Previously, the federal government owned the site.

Mayor Johannes Bruns (SPD) was due to the current discussion in talks with the Jewish community and the Foundation Memorial Buchenwald, she added. It should be considered together how to handle the subject sensitively.

The construction will be on Thursday evening theme in the city council.
