Barbra Streisand has responded via Twitter to a 47-year-old fan letter. Sender was Richard E. Grant, who this year for his supporting role in the drama "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" is nominated for an Oscar.

The South African-born actor made public the letter this week that he had written to Streisand at the age of 14. In it he offered her a relaxing holiday in the house of his parents.

Grant wrote in his tweet that he had been a fan of Streisand all his life and posted a selfie in front of their house.

The response of the 76-year-olds was not long in coming: "What a wonderful letter you wrote me at 14. And now look at it," tweeted Streisand and praised his presentation in "Can You Ever Forgive Me? ". In the biography of writer Lee Israel, who faked letters from deceased celebrities, Grant plays alongside Melissa McCarthy.

The 61-year-old could hardly believe his luck. "I can not even say how much your benevolent answer has meant to me," he tweeted. A family quarrel, the heartfelt fan love probably does not come after. "My wife is very understanding," Grant wrote.
