The illustration is clear: Britney Spears chose a painting from the 17th century for her statement on Instagram. "Salome with the head of the Baptist" is the title of Guido Reni's painting, and the biblical background tells of heteronomy – and Britney Spears wants nothing more to do with it.

In the Instagram post, Spears refers to recent rumors that she is working on a new album. Among others, the New York gossip site »Page Six« reported that Charli XCX and Julia Michaels would be among the songwriters for new material. Britney Spears' reaction is clear: "To be clear, most of the news is garbage. They always say I'm going to turn to some people for a new album... I'll never go back to the music industry."

Britney Spears had written in her autobiography, published in 2023, that the guardianship she was under for years had permanently disrupted her relationship with music. "Advancing my music career is not my focus right now," she wrote. "It's time for me not to be what other people want me to be; it's time to actually find myself."

"As of now, she doesn't actively record anything"

The US magazine »Rolling Stone« quotes sources according to which management and record company are currently trying to get Britney Spears excited about music. » As of now, she's not actively recording anything," it says, "but they're preparing songs that they want to present to her." However, nothing is set in stone.

In her Instagram message, Spears writes that when she writes songs, whether it's just for fun or for others. She has written more than 20 songs for others in the past two years: "I'm a ghostwriter, and to be honest, I like it that way."

Since the end of the 13-year period under the guardianship of her father, among others, in 2021, Britney Spears has released two songs: a duet with Elton John, »Hold Me Closer«, and a collaboration with Will.i.am, »Mind Your Business«.
