On December 12, Unit 7 of State Grid Xinyuan Chongqing Panlong Pumped Storage Power Station, the first million-kilowatt large-scale pumped storage power station in southwest China, was put into operation for power generation, achieving a new breakthrough in the regulatory power supply of Chongqing and Southwest Power Grid.

Panlong Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Qijiang District, Chongqing City, and is a relay power source on the main channel of the country's large-scale "West-to-East Power Transmission". With a total investment of 71.18 billion yuan and a total installed capacity of 120.500 million kilowatts, the power station is connected to the Chongqing power grid with a 20 kilovolt line, with a designed annual power generation capacity of 04.26 billion kilowatt-hours and an annual pumping capacity of 72.<> billion kilowatt-hours.

In terms of site selection and planning, the upper and lower reservoirs of Panlong Pumped Storage Power Station use natural reservoir basins to store water, and the construction excavation and filling area of the reservoir basin mountain is small, which greatly protects the original ecology of the mountain from being destroyed.

It is understood that the units of the Panlong Pumped Storage Power Station are planned to be put into operation for power generation in 2024. After the power station is fully put into operation, the regulation capacity will reach 240.15 million kilowatts, which will become the "super charger" of the power grid in southwest China, undertaking the tasks of peak regulation, frequency regulation, phase modulation, energy storage, rotating backup and black start of the power grid, providing important dynamic support for Chongqing to accept long-distance and large-scale external calls, and improving the utilization efficiency and power transmission of cross-regional transmission channels such as UHV. At the same time, it can save 23,39 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 87,<> tons every year, with significant energy saving and emission reduction benefits.
