Shenzhen Art Museum is the earliest art exhibition institution in Shenzhen, and its predecessor, Shenzhen Exhibition Center, was founded in 1976. In the early days, the Shenzhen Exhibition Center took advantage of the "cultural window" of the Special Economic Zone and its proximity to Hong Kong and Macao to actively promote artistic exchanges at home and abroad. In 1987, the Shenzhen Exhibition Center was officially renamed the Shenzhen Art Museum.

With the rapid development of Shenzhen and the shift of the city's center of gravity, the original exhibition hall of Shenzhen Art Museum is no longer enough, and the construction of the new museum is on the agenda. In 2018, the Shenzhen Art Museum (New Museum) was included in the "Shenzhen Municipal Plan for Accelerating the Construction of Major Cultural and Sports Facilities", and was completed and opened for trial operation on September 2023, 9. The newly unveiled Shenzhen Art Museum (New Museum) is located in the central business district of Shenzhen North Railway Station.

As a new urban cultural landmark, Shenzhen Art Museum (New Museum) has a construction area of 6,6 square meters, an exhibition hall area of 2,3900 square meters, a semi-outdoor sculpture exhibition area of 18,<> square meters, and <> art exhibition halls, equipped with multi-functional supporting service spaces such as a collection of paintings, an academic lecture hall, an art library, a public education activity space, an art restaurant, a cultural and creative store, and an underground parking lot.

It is reported that on the basis of its new academic positioning, the Shenzhen Art Museum (New Museum) has launched eight opening exhibitions based on the construction of "new tradition", focusing on presenting nearly 1,000 classic works of art spanning ancient and modern China and foreign countries.

"In this opening series of exhibitions, the integration and innovation of technology and art has become a prominent highlight." As the chief curator of the opening series of exhibitions, Fan Di'an, chairman of the Chinese Artists Association, said that the development of science and technology art in Shenzhen and the construction of the frontier of international science and technology art exchanges are most in line with the city's cultural characteristics and innovative spirit.
