As a member of the 23rd batch of Doctor Service Group of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Chen Li said, "Mission is the most important support for me in the process of practicing medicine. ”

In February 2023, Chen Li, as the deputy chief physician of the Department of Ophthalmology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, served as the vice president of the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University.

Why did you come to the Northwest Plateau?

"Before I came, I had some knowledge of ophthalmology in Qinghai Province, and I felt that this place needed me, and a sense of mission made me feel that I had to come." Chen Li said.

Although she had a certain understanding of Qinghai before leaving, Chen Li was still shocked by the vastness of Qinghai when she first arrived. Preliminary understanding of the basic situation of the department, overcoming insomnia, headache, digestive disorders and other altitude sickness... After adjusting the pace of life, Chen Li quickly devoted herself to ophthalmology diagnosis and treatment and hospital management.

Carried out a number of eye surgeries to fill the technical gap in the hospital

In June this year, Chen Li welcomed a special patient in the outpatient clinic - three family members supported a middle-aged male patient and staggered into the consultation room. Without waiting for a medical history, the family members eagerly said that the patient had suddenly lost his sight. Because I heard that Dr. Yuanqing was in the consultation, I came here, hoping to save the patient's eyesight.

After Chen Li's detailed examination and examination, it was learned that the patient had "type 2 diabetes", and due to long-term failure to control blood sugar, he developed bilateral diabetic retinopathy with vitreous hemorrhage in both eyes.

To regain your sight, surgery is necessary. Chen Li also learned from her family that the patient did not have a stable job, and she was alone with her high school child, and her life was difficult, and the illness made the family even worse.

After learning about the situation, Chen Li's team arranged for the patient to be admitted to the hospital, striving to solve the patient's urgent needs as soon as possible. After surgery, the patient was discharged with good glycemic control and improved visual acuity of 0.5 in his right eye and 0.08 in his left eye due to macular degeneration. The moment the gauze is lifted, the world in front of the patient's eyes lights up again.

"Thank you so much, you not only saved my eyes, but also saved our family!" Patient said.

Vitreoretinal surgery is a fourth-level surgery that is complex and requires specialized surgical equipment. With the support of Fan Haining, President of the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University, the hospital purchased the necessary vitreoretinal surgery glass cutting equipment for the ophthalmology department, providing a good hardware foundation for the surgical development of fundus diseases.

Chen Li led the members of the ophthalmology team to actively carry out vitrectomy surgery. At present, nearly 10 new technologies have been carried out, including vitrectomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, complex retinal detachment vitrectomy with choroidal detachment, vitrectomy for severe ocular trauma, and vitrectomy for vitreous hemorrhage.

"Blood transfusion + hematopoiesis", cultivate a medical team that cannot be taken away

It is better to teach a man to fish than to teach him to fish. Chen Li said: "One year is too short to help the youth, and only by cultivating a medical team that cannot be taken away can we fundamentally help the patients here." ”

In the usual work of aiding young people, Chen Li actively teaches, standardizes ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment, organizes ophthalmology academic conferences, organizes the teaching team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University to come to Qingdao for simulated clinical teaching certification, and participates in guiding and assisting in the training of trainees and the opening of graduate students.

In addition, she also taught many backbone doctors in ophthalmology, and she took the initiative to learn, do, learn and do.

"Since Dr. Chen Li came to our hospital, she has helped us a lot, developed a lot of new technologies, and filled a lot of gaps." Yu Ping, deputy director of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University, said that many of them, such as retinal detachment, are emergencies, and before this technology was carried out, it was basically a transfer certificate to let patients go out for treatment, but in many cases, due to time and travel, patients will miss the best treatment time and affect the postoperative effect.

"During the operation, Dr. Chen Li will teach us hand-in-hand, from preoperative preparation, disease discussion, to intraoperative precautions, to postoperative ward rounds, everything is very detailed, which has benefited us a lot, and we also cherish such learning opportunities." Yu Ping said.

Chen Li said that she hopes to cultivate and retain a group of ophthalmology talents who cannot be taken away, retained and used, so that what they have learned and taught can stay in the western part of the motherland and blossom and bear fruit. (ENDS)
