In a nursing home in Seubersdorf in the district of Neumarkt, there is said to have been severe abuse of old people. As the public prosecutor's office in Nuremberg-Fürth announced, a 33-year-old nurse is said to have been assaulted at least twelve times. According to the report, six women and one man were abused by him. The man was charged on suspicion of assault, coercion and deprivation of liberty.

Specifically, the man is said to have reprimanded nursing home residents with physical measures in the years 2019 to 2022 if he did not like their behavior. He had locked a 90-year-old woman for minutes in drizzling rain in the so-called dementia garden of the home. He is said to have grabbed an 87-year-old woman under his arms and dragged her through several rooms of the facility. He is said to have turned off the power for the night bell to a 92-year-old woman, so that she could no longer call for help.

Accused remains silent on allegations

According to the investigation, the 33-year-old man is said to have dragged old people across the aisle, beaten them and slightly injured them. The accused has not yet commented on the allegations. The Court of Aldermen at the District Court of Neumarkt must now decide whether the prosecution's indictment will be admitted to the main hearing and whether the main proceedings will be opened.

Violence in care: "Safe places are often unsafe"

Investigations against three managers of the affected retirement home have been discontinued, it said. No wrongdoing could be proven against them.

Misconduct by caregivers appears to be more common. For example, an inquiry by Bayerischer Rundfunk to the Lower Bavaria police headquarters revealed that between 2017 and 2021, around 30 investigations were conducted in connection with senior citizens' facilities in this region alone.
