According to the police, the man was attacked by a bear that was nearby when he went to check on the trap cage, scratched his face and back, and was being treated at the hospital.

After attacking the man, the bear disappeared, but there were two bears in the cage that appeared to be children.

The police say that it may have been the parent bear that attacked the man, and are calling for caution by patrolling the city and the area around the scene.

The site is located in a mountainous area about 10 kilometers southwest of the city center.

In response to a series of bear attacks nationwide, Niigata Prefecture has issued the highest alert level "Bear Infestation Special Alert" since late last month.
