Capsized yacht on the beach of Torres Vedras

Two men and two women have died in the sinking of a sailing yacht off the coast of Portugal. At least three of the victims are Danes, according to the spokesman for the National Maritime Authority (MNA), José Sousa Luís, according to the Lusa news agency. A male body has yet to be identified. The accident of the Danish boat occurred about one kilometer from Formosa beach – in Torres Vedras, about 60 kilometers northwest of Lisbon.

Rescue workers had initially recovered three victims in the afternoon, two men and a woman. During the recovery of the capsized sailboat, the body of another woman was found inside some time later, Sousa Luís explained. At the time of the accident, according to the competent authorities, there were rough seas with high waves and strong winds.

According to official information, three of the victims had washed up on the beach in the afternoon without life jackets and with cardiac arrest. Immediately initiated resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, it said. The age and other information about the victims were not initially disclosed.
