Princess Yoshiko, the second daughter of Prince and Mrs. Akishino, who is on an official visit to Peru in South America, attended a ceremony commemorating the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in the capital city of Lima.

Yoshiko, who arrived in Peru at midnight on the 1nd, one day later than scheduled due to a problem with the civilian plane she boarded, visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lima's Old Town in a kimono around noon on the 2rd to attend a ceremony to commemorate the 3th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Peru.

At the ceremony, following the welcome address by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Higueras, Princess Yoshiko gave a speech and mentioned that she had heard from Mr. and Mrs. Akishinomiya and her sister Masako Komuro, who had visited earlier, about their memories of Peru from time to time. I have always hoped to visit someday, so I am very happy that this visit came true."

In addition, based on the fact that Peru is the first country in Latin America to establish diplomatic relations with Japan and the first country in South America where Japan people have systematically immigrated, he said, "Through this visit, I will reflect on the history of both countries and deepen exchanges with the people I meet at each destination. I would like to learn more about the charm and splendor of Peru."

After this, a commemorative stamp commemorating the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations was unveiled, designed by the World Heritage site of Machu Picchu and the Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine in Wakayama Prefecture, and Ms. Yoshiko, who unveiled the statue, was given a big round of applause along with the people concerned.

Ms. Yoshiko will visit Machu Picchu on the 4th of the following day.
