A pensioner from the Ludwigslust area has been defrauded of more than 100,000 euros. According to the police, the 77-year-old handed over the money on Thursday after a so-called shock call to a man unknown to her.

The elderly woman was told during the phone call that a relative of hers was in prison after an accident and needed the money to get free, police said.

The crime is one of a total of 23 fraud cases that the police recorded that day in the west of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. According to the police, most of the victims, aged between 73 and 88, had recognized the perpetrators' modus operandi in time. The fraudsters mainly tried to get their hands on the victims' money via shock calls.
