Despite a large manhunt, a murderer convicted in Baden-Württemberg is still on the run. There is no news, said a spokesman for the Pforzheim police on Saturday morning. He did not want to give further details about the manhunt and tips from the public.

The 43-year-old Aleksandr P. had fled on Monday during a guarded excursion in Germersheim (Rhineland-Palatinate).

Actually, the German-Kazakh is serving a prison sentence in Bruchsal prison. In 2012, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder by the Karlsruhe Regional Court. Although the particular gravity of the guilt had been established, a so-called preventive detention was not ordered.

According to the State Criminal Police Office in Stuttgart on Friday, investigators recently followed up on around 50 leads. Among them are statements from witnesses who claim to have seen the fugitive murderer. It is being investigated in all directions and sometimes undercover, police and prosecutors announced on Friday.

On Monday, P. was in the area of the quarry pond in Germersheim – about 30 kilometres from Bruchsal. He was supposed to meet his wife and children under the supervision of two prison officials. P. was able to escape into a wooded area despite the electronic ankle bracelet. The ankle bracelet was found a short time later in the city of Germersheim.
