The Kyoto Modern Architecture Festival, which is a special exhibition of modern and contemporary buildings built after the Meiji era for a limited time, is held in Kyoto City.

This event was started last year by an executive committee formed by Kyoto City and other organizations to learn about the history of modern and contemporary buildings that remain in Kyoto City and to deepen their understanding of preserving them for the future, and 79 buildings are participating, including those that are usually closed to the public.

Among them, the "Kyoto Resurrection Church" in Kita-ku, Kyoto City was designed by William Merrell Vories, an American architect who came to Japan during the Meiji era, and was built in Showa 10.

The windows of the chapel are characterized by their pointed shape, which has become a symbol of the region.

In addition, the "Kyoto Miyukicho Church" in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City was also designed by Vorhees in Taisho 2.

The interior is characterized by a simple structure, such as a structure that supports the roof of Western origin and a truss structure that is exposed.

Kazuto Kasahara, an assistant professor at Kyoto Institute of Technology and chairman of the event's executive committee, said, "Kyoto tends to attract attention for its buildings from the old era, but there are many attractive buildings from the Meiji era onward, so I hope you will enjoy it."

The building festival will be held until the 12th of this month, and in addition to the 4th, the building will be intensively open to the public from the 10th to the 12th of this month.
