Dr. Takaji Wakita, director of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, announced his views on the institute's website regarding the new coronavirus vaccine, saying that statements that are different from his intentions are spreading on social media.

This opinion was posted on the website of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.

According to the report, while talking to visitors at the public opening of the institute on the 28th of last month, the content of the remarks that were different from his intention was spread on social media.

On top of that, the new coronavirus vaccine has been proven to reduce severity and death based on many well-designed studies, and vaccinate people at high risk of severe illness is a top public health priority.

He also pointed out that there is currently no scientific evidence that vaccines are the cause of excess deaths in Japan since 2020.

In an interview with NHK, Director Wakita said, "I thought it was necessary to convey my and the Institute's views because the content was different from what we intended, and we will continue to strive to convey the correct content to the public."
