In August, two cargo ships collided off the coast of Wakayama Prefecture and the ship of a shipping company in Tokyo capsized, killing one person and leaving one missing, and the Wakayama Coast Guard Office sent documents on suspicion of manslaughter in the course of work, saying that the accident was caused by the failure of the crew members of both ships who were in charge of the operation at the time to take appropriate measures.

In August, the Izumi Maru, a cargo ship owned by a shipping company in Tokyo, collided with a Liberian-flagged freighter at sea in the Kii Suido, 8 kilometers off the coast of Mihama Town, Wakayama Prefecture.

In this accident, the "Izumi Maru" capsized, killing the first mate in his 15s, and the whereabouts of the captain in his 60s are unknown.

The Wakayama Coast Guard Office was investigating the cause of the accident by interviewing the crews of both ships, but as a result of the investigation, it was found that the 38-year-old second officer of the Izumi Maru, who was in charge of operating the ship at the time, and the 48-year-old third officer of the Liberian-flagged ship did not sufficiently guard the surroundings and did not take measures to avoid the collision.

For this reason, the Japan Coast Guard sent documents to the two men on suspicion of manslaughter in the course of work and danger of negligence in the course of work on the 2nd.

Both have admitted to the charges.
