The general meeting of the Japan Science Council was held in Tokyo on June 2, and Professor Emeritus Mamoru Mitsuishi of the University of Tokyo was elected as the new president upon the expiration of the term of office of former president Takaaki Kajita. Regarding the appointment of members, the new Chairman Mitsuishi stated that he would "insist on what needs to be asserted" and indicated that he would continue to ask the government to rescind the refusal of appointment.

The Japan Science Council held its general meeting in Minato-ku, Tokyo on June 2, and Professor Emeritus Mamoru Mitsuishi of the University of Tokyo was elected as its new president.

After serving as vice president of the University of Tokyo specializing in mechanical engineering, the new president is currently serving as a board member of the National Institute for University Reform and Degree Awarding.

In his inaugural address, the new Chairman Mitsuishi expressed his aspiration, saying, "I would like to steadily promote the dissemination of information that the academic council should do."

With regard to the Academic Council, the then Prime Minister Kan did not appoint the six candidates recommended by the Council at the last membership selection three years ago, and the Council continues to call for the appointment of six members.

In his resignation address, former Chairman Kajita stated, "It is unfortunate that we have invested a lot of energy but have not yet resolved the issue, and we have no choice but to take over this issue Japan.

After the General Assembly, Mitsuishi told reporters that the policy of refusal of appointment is basically the same as the policy of the academic council so far, and that he will continue to ask the government to rescind the refusal of appointment of the six members.
