A suspected smuggler rammed a patrol car with 15 migrants in the car while fleeing from a check in Bavaria and steered his car into a meadow. As the Federal Police announced on Monday, the officers had wanted to stop the van on Thursday in Neuhaus am Inn (district of Passau) on the Austrian border when the driver drove away.

Because of his reckless driving style, the man also rammed a patrol car with his car. In the neighboring town of Neuburg am Inn, the 34-year-old then steered the van into a meadow and jumped out of the still rolling car to flee on foot. Federal police officers had stopped the van with their car, both vehicles had been pushed into an earthen embankment.

The 15 migrants in the van remained uninjured in the accident, the alleged smuggler from the Czech Republic was arrested after a short escape. He is now in custody for smuggling under life-threatening conditions. The migrants from Syria and Turkey were reportedly charged with unauthorized entry.
