• Metropolis Karlos Arguiñano: "Before nobody paid attention to me, I seemed like a clown; now, all God listens to me."

Today Karlos Arguiñano can say louder than ever that of "rich, rich and with foundation". At 75 years old, the television chef is not retiring. After marking a historic season, with audience ratings never reached, Atresmedia and Karlos Arguiñano have renewed their contract for one more season of their program, Cocina abierta de Karlos Arguiñano.

Although Karlos Arguiñano has been with his program since 1991, it was in 2010 when the chef broke his contract with Telecinco, after also passing through La 1, and went to Antena 3, where since then he triumphs every noon with his recipes.

As El Confidencial Digital has advanced and EL MUNDO has been able to confirm, Atresmedia's confidence in the chef is such that, in the words of sources of the audiovisual group, "Karlos Arguiñano will be until he wants to be". That is, the renewal of the contract has been a mere procedure to formalize its continuity. It has no expiration date, since the cook will remain the cook of the TV "until the body endures".

And even more so after the hearings he has done last season. Cocina abierta by Karlos Arguiñano closed last season with the best screen share in its history, 17.8% on average, improving almost two points the previous season, and with more than 900,000 daily viewers on average.

In this way, Karlos Arguiñano's cooking program was crowned as the leading space in its strip, surpassing its rival by more than three points. But it is also that, despite the time it is broadcast – from 13:20 p.m. to 13:45 p.m. – Arguiñano brings together all age groups. From the youngest to the oldest. And it is that Karlos Arguiñano has created a television format in itself with his way of explaining recipes, his humor, his speeches, his insistence that you can eat healthy and rich and with the aim of demonstrating that everyone can cook.

In fact, it has been in this season when he has also set two audience records: the first on September 28 with a 21.2% share of screen and, the second, on June 13 with 21.3%, his best mark since he moved to Antena 3 13 years ago. In addition, to add more milestones, Karlos Arguiñano has made his best summer with an average audience of 16.8% of screen share and still being reruns of previous chapters. Something very similar to what happens with El Hormiguero every summer, which is still the most watched program on television, although repeated interviews are broadcast.

In fact, Antena 3's commitment to Karlos Arguiñano is clear. The tandem formed by the chef, La ruleta de la suerte and Antena 3 Noticias 1 is the second most successful of the chain only behind Pasapalabra, Antena 3 Noticias 2 and El Hormiguero.

Karlos Arguiñano en tu cocina, the name with which he arrived at Antena 3, changed his name in 2019. In addition, he incorporated his son Joseba Arguiñano as a collaborator.

The key to success is to make cooking in the simplest and most enjoyable way possible. In each program Arguiñano prepares two healthy dishes with seasonal products that move away from the remoteness of the dishes of the great chefs. They are close, simple dishes that feed and at the same time nourish. And, above all, that they can be prepared by those who know how to cook, but also by those who have not cooked in their lives. "Rich, rich" cuisine.

Karlos Arguiñano's television career did not begin on Antena 3. Arguiñano began in an EiTB program, although he became known in 1991 when he signed for RTVE with El menú de cada día. Six years later and thanks to the success he obtained in La 1 he signed Telecinco, but in 2010 he decided not to renew with the main Mediaset chain and went to Antena 3. During these more than 30 years of television career, the chef has managed to win an Ondas Award, a Golden Antenna and the National Television Award.
