Nearly 100 years have passed since its construction, and at the Matsuyama Regional Meteorological Observatory in Matsuyama City, where restoration work is underway, the "Great Clock," once familiar to citizens as a symbol, was unveiled for the first time in 55 years.

The Matsuyama Regional Meteorological Observatory in Kitamochida-cho, Matsuyama City, was built in Showa 3 and is designated as a national "Registered Tangible Cultural Property", but due to its deterioration, restoration work has been underway since Ototoshi.

At the time of its completion, a "large clock" was installed on the top floor of the building to inform citizens of the time, but over the years, it often shifted, and it was removed 55 years ago in Showa 43.

On the 21st, as part of the restoration work, the clock was installed again, and workers hoisted the clock face at a height of about 10 meters and installed it on the outer wall of the building along with the hands.

After this, the interior of the facility was also opened to the public, and work was being carried out to restore the original interior, including wooden stairs and window frames, Greek columns, and green frosted glass, which is now rare.

The clock will start working in the middle of next month, and the renovation of the entire building is expected to be completed within the next month.

Yo Ishikawa, First Director of the Matsuyama Regional Meteorological Observatory, said, "We are delighted to be able to preserve the Great Clock for future generations, and I hope that it will become as familiar as it once became a symbol of the region.
