The Nenuco is the toy baby par excellence that has accompanied the childhood of several generations for more than 45 years. Decades ago, all girls (mostly) wanted one and Famosa, the Alicante brand 'mother' of the child, was leaving 'suckers' in millions of Spanish homes.

Times have changed and where there was only uniformity, diversity makes its way. Today the company has presented the Nenuco with Down syndrome and the Nenuco with Cochlear Implant, two new dolls that swell the Diversity and Inclusion catalog. Its objective is to promote in children the value of different abilities through play.

The importance of these two new Nenucos also lies in ensuring that all children feel represented with toys that reflect their features, whatever their origin or abilities, and at the same time all children can incorporate the reality of diversity in their day to day in a natural way.

The richness of diversity

The dolls can also be a useful tool for educators, parents, in their work to show the little ones that disability does not define a person, but it does enrich society with different perspectives and experiences.

"At Famosa we have been promoting the education and development of children through play for more than 60 years. From a very early age we can transmit fundamental values by playing with the little ones so that they understand concepts as important as equality, diversity and respect for all people, whatever their abilities. Today most children have classmates and friends from different backgrounds and with different abilities and with this collection we want to contribute to integrating this reality naturally through play, "said Irene Sotillo, marketing director for Iberia of Famosa.

The presentation has also had the participation of Agustín Matía, General Director of DOWN ESPAÑA, and Laia Zamora, Director of Youth of the Federation of Associations of Cochlear Implants of Spain (AICE), since Famosa has collaborated with both associations to develop these Nenucos. As part of this collaboration, each pack includes a leaflet with information about Down syndrome and the cochlear implant, respectively.

The goal, they have insisted, is not to create a specific doll for children who have disabilities, but a toy for everyone, seeking the normalization of Down syndrome and hearing loss.

Famous

In addition, Carlota Cajigas was present at this event, a girl with Down syndrome whose experience highlighted the importance of all children feeling represented in their daily games and how these are an instrument to teach the importance of empathy and respect as fundamental values in our society. Also attending this presentation were María Doussinage and her daughter Marieta, with Down syndrome, in whose Instagram profile (El Cromosoma de Marieta) they show their day to day with the aim of changing the look of society towards this condition.

In addition to these last two releases, Famosa has also included in its Diversity and Inclusion line Nenuco Glasses, a baby with glasses and eye patch, which reflects the reality of many children with vision problems. The collection also integrates the Nenucos del Mundo line, a family formed by African Nenuco, Asian Nenuco, Caucasian Nenuco, and to which Nenuco Latina has recently joined.
